I. LOVE. THIS.

Queen Califia’s Magical Circle Garden is an art project created by French artist Niki de Saint Phalle. It’s tucked away in Kit Carson Park in Escondido, CA.  If you’re in the San Diego area, it’s well worth a visit!
Queen Califia was a mythical figure from a 16th-century Spanish romance novel Las Sergas de Esplandián. She was a warrior queen who ruled over an imaginary island in paradise with an army of women and a flock of griffin.  An embodiment of womanhood, strength, and beauty, she represents the spirit of California and has been depicted in many different art forms.
